Rugby Tips - Week One Preview

Week 1 Preview

Welcome to the first week of our regular Rugby Tipping Service, where we will preview the weekly fixtures including the domestic leagues and the European Cup matches in a build up to the Six Nations, for which we will produce a full outright preview as we successfully did for the World Cup (47.86 points profit) and then weekly tips throughout the competition.

I hope you all enjoy the service and it’s as successful as the World Cup was, so without further ado lets get stuck into the weekend’s tips.

Preview Section: The Gallagher Premiership is still a bit out of balance at the moment in terms of where I believe teams will finish for a number of reasons, the first being the competition started when the World Cup was on so many of the stronger teams were missing key players leading to some surprising results – Northampton beating Saracens away from home and Bristol winning at Exeter being the most obvious examples. The second factor being the 35 point deduction from reigning League and European Champions Saracens that has them currently sat on minus 18 points and fighting to stave off relegation rather than trying to win a 3rd title in 4 years. With this in mind the overall picture of the league is quite a complex one to establish and I will tread cautiously with tips initially until we have a firmer idea of how to proceed.

Looking at the slate of games this week, there appears to be 3 obvious winners from the 7 fixtures; Gloucester should be able to beat Worcester at home on Friday night, whilst Exeter who I expect to win the league should see off a Leicester Tigers side that is really struggling at the moment. Finally Saracens should beat Bristol at home, because as mentioned above they are the league’s best side and due to the points deduction imposed on them they can’t afford to take any game lightly so a treble of the 3 wins paying around 11/10 looks a fairly comfortable play.

Recommended Bet: 15 Points TREBLE Gloucester To Beat Worcester (3/10), Exeter To Beat Leicester (4/9) and Saracens To Beat Bristol (1/9) – Treble Pays 1.08/1 (2.08 Decimal) at Boylesports or 1.02/1 (2.02 Decimal) at Betfair Sportsbook.

Sale vs Northampton: This is one of the most competitive games on paper where top of the table Northampton travel north to take on Sale at the AJ Bell Stadium. Sale are a very strong side at home and are extremely hard to beat whilst Northampton have been in fine form all season winning 4 of their first 5 matches, coupled with strong showings in the European Cup to boot. If I had to pick here I would lean towards a Sale victory but without huge confidence behind it, at 5/6 that doesn’t seem that much value in a game that is so hard to call. In response to that I will resort to a value play that served us well during the World Cup of backing one side to lead at half time and the other to win at full time at much bigger odds and I will also risk a point on the draw in a game that I expect to be very close right to the death.
